Cactus looks low maintenance right up until it is not. Prickly pear spreads into a thicket. Cholla drops segments that stick to anything that walks past. Agaves bloom once, die, and leave a rotting rosette with a fifteen-foot stalk. A tall saguaro or cereus goes over in a storm and lands across the walkway. And a cactus next to a pool or a play area is a problem every single day.
Removing it is a job for people with the right gloves, tools and trailer. The crew takes the plant apart, digs out the root crown so it does not resprout, rakes the area for dropped spines and segments, and hauls everything. The spot is left clean and ready for rock, a new plant or nothing at all.
Cactus and succulents we remove
- Prickly pear and cholla. Cut, dug and hauled, with the ground raked for pads and segments so nothing comes back.
- Agave and yucca. Dead or overgrown rosettes dug out with the root crown, including the pups that spread around them.
- Ocotillo. Removed or relocated on request.
- Saguaro, cereus and organ pipe. Fallen or storm-damaged columns cleared in sections. Standing saguaros on developed lots can be removed, and we will tell you when state native plant rules apply.
- Barrel cactus and small ornamentals. Removed or transplanted.
Storm-damaged cactus
Monsoon winds and saturated soil bring down tall cactus every summer. A fallen saguaro or cereus is heavy, wet and covered in spines, and it will keep rotting where it lies. Call and we will clear it quickly, usually the same day or next day like any other storm call.
What happens after removal
The spot gets backfilled and the decorative rock raked back so it matches the rest of the yard. If you want something planted in its place, we can put in a tree or a replacement cactus at the same visit, and we have replanted customers' cactus after storm work when the plant was worth saving. Irrigation lines that were feeding the old plant can be capped or rerouted while we are there.
Pricing
Cactus removal is priced by the size and number of plants and how hard the root system is to get out. A single agave is a quick job. A yard full of prickly pear that has been spreading for a decade takes longer. It is often bundled with a yard cleanup or a tree job so you get one crew visit and one price.
