Sixty-foot Aleppo pines, eucalyptus that were planted when the lots were citrus groves, olives with trunks you cannot get your arms around, and date palms that have been there since the house was built. They are worth keeping, and they are expensive to get wrong.

Storms, HOAs and local notes
The Town of Paradise Valley cares about its hillside and its views, and some hillside properties have rules about native vegetation. On flat lots the main issue is size: these trees need climbers with real rigging experience, not a crew with a ladder. Monsoon storms funnel around Camelback and Mummy Mountain and the tall pines and eucalyptus are the first to drop limbs, which is why a pre-summer thinning is the best money you can spend on them.
